Why My Mother Drinks

Christmas is the season for eggnog. Our family always makes a big batch of eggnog at this time of the year. If you have ever had real eggnog, you will probably think twice about buying it at the grocery store. There is no comparison to the real stuff.

Some people wonder about the safety of eggnog since it has raw eggs in it. I always make sure I have fresh eggs and make sure to keep it refrigerated.

Making good egg not is actually pretty simple. Why not serve this at your holiday get-together. Just make sure your guests don’t drink too much. This actually has quite a bit of alcohol in it!

  • 3 C milk
  • 1 pt whipping cream
  • 1 3/4 C sugar
  • 4 eggs (separated)
  • 1 pt Rye Whiskey
  • 2 oz Rum
  • 2 oz Sherry
  • Nutmeg

Beat the egg whites until stiff. Set aside. In a separate bowl, whip the cream and set aside.

Beat the egg yolks until they are stiff. Add the sugar and continue beating. Add the milk and mix well. Fold in the whipped cream and stiffly beaten egg whites. Add the liquor and nutmeg. Stir gently to mix.

Keep in a covered container in the refrigerator. When you serve the eggnog, gently stir before you serve and top with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

This is REALLY yummy.
