Mint Juleps have always been thought of as a Southern U.S. tradition. Today is a day to celebrate this wonderful drink. Try making one today:
2 C sugar
4 C water
1 bunch fresh mint
crushed ice
4 C bourbon whiskey
Bring the sugar and water to a boil and stir until all the sugar is dissolved. Simmer about 5 mintues. Chop the mint and add to the sugar mixture. Simmer about 5 more minutes. Pour into a container and refrigerate until cold.
Strain the syrup and fill chilled (frosted) glasses with crushed ice. Add equal amount of syrup and bourbon. Stir and garnish is extra mint. sprigs.
