We all need to clean out our computer just like we do everything else in our lives. Look at this like the beginning of Spring cleaning!
I couldn’t find the origins of this day. But I suspect it was probably started by an IT person. Many times we get frustrated because your computer is running slow. But if you take time to clean it up, just as you may do your closet, you will find that it will probably run a bit faster.
So today is a good day to get rid of all those files you don’t need anymore and organize the files you do need. Some basic rules for cleaning up your computer are:
- Delete unused and old: files, emails and email addresses, bookmarks and favorites
- Backup your files and programs at least every month
- Uninstall programs, shareware, executable files, e-books, or games that you no longer need or use
- Save only documents or emails needed. Ask: WHO needs it?, WHAT use is it?, WHEN will I use it?, WHERE will I find it?, WHY do I want or need it?, HOW long do I need to SAVE it?
Templates and Time: create and use templates that will save you time. You can find many free templates for business and personal use at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/default.aspx.
I know I will take some time today to organize my files because I have a habit of placing working files on my desktop and then when my project is complete, I don’t always file them the way I should.
